PAPER PANACHE, IMAGES & IDEAS FOR PAPER PIECING

Teacher's Nameplate. Cathye Mason shared this project and
writes: "The nameplate was done as a thank you gift for my daughter's second grade
teacher, who is very artistic. (She now thinks I should go into the craft business...!)
What makes it somewhat unique is that I added a lengthwise pocket on the back
(after quilting, but before binding) so that a piece of matboard could be inserted
to stabilize it. This allows it to be "propped up" if the recipient doesn't wish
to hang it on the wall. It also helps it hang better on the wall."
6/12/99 Refrigerator Quiltlets.
Shirley Hobenshield of Kitwanga, BC, Canada writes: "I just thought I'd share
this with you... I've been following your mystery blocks and tried out several
of them. I've been making fridge "quiltlets" for my mother since she was diagnosed
with cancer three years ago. It was something I could do from a distance to let
her know I was thinking of her. A few of them have been your mystery blocks. Her
collection is now working on covering the side of her fridge--the front being
full now. She is particularly fond of the one that she refers to as me 'sharing
a cup of coffee with her.' Thanks for making some of your creations available
on the net."
3/10/99 Gingerbread
pillows. Heather Gammie writes: "To Mystery Block #10, The Gingerbread Kids,
I did the following: (1) Added a Christmas green (solid, not print) to the octagon
to square it to 9"x9"; (2) Attached a 1/4" yellow gold (same fabric as used in
the block) border; (3) Added a 2" green (same as (1) above) border; (4) Attached
a multicoloured Christmas print backing, stuffed it with a 14"x14" pillow form,
and voila! A happy little Christmas toss cushion. The little ones in our family
love it.
1/9/99 Holiday Placemats.
Diane Carey writes that she's thinking of turning some of the turkey/Christmas/Hanukkah
blocks into placemats. (I hadn't thought of these!)

Turkey/Christmas Table Runner. Kathy Stewart wrote: "I'm
going to make a table runner with the turkey on each end, then...if the next block
is for Christmas, do the exact same set up, put the two together thus having a
reversible table runner that can last through the holiday season." She's making
the runner as a Christmas present for her sister.
