Zig-zaggy border. Risa Myers, of Seabrook, TX, sent me this
picture of her Momcat, and I thought her border was interesting. You might want
to adapt it to something you're working on.
TIP:
Take-Along Spools. Appliquers...have you thought of this?
When I have nearly nothing left on a spool, I rewind them with the dregs from
other spools so I have 3 or 4 colors on it. These have been very handy to take
on the road.
"Brag
Bags" by Gretchen Crozier, Fremont, CA. She writes: "I made
2 "Brag Bags", one for myself and one for the shop owner, for
a New Home sewing machine institute. I teach piecing and foundation
piecing in her shop. The bags are channel quilted using a sewing
machine. Fabric: Mine is Black/Cream - hers is Navy/Cream. The
pockets on the front are your blocks sashed with red scissor fabric.
The corner blocks are 2 thimbles and 2 spools. I inserted a stripe
fabric into the bands on the thimbles. It made them look like
designer thimbles. The tall skinny spool of thread was made with
a fabric that looked just like a varigated thread. By using a
permanent pen to mark brand names on the spools, they looked more
realistic. The owner of Sulky was happy to see her name on the
spools. The pockets on the back are personalized. Inside are 2
more pockets. The fabric was quilted to Thermalam plus, so they
stand alone. The most fun of all, of course, was making the blocks.
I use airmail paper for my foundation. It's high rag content makes
it tough and semi transparent. It is easier to rip off, too."
Debbie Alley of Crosby,
TX is doing a small display at her local library she calls Quilting in the
90s. Apparently she is including quilting websites and projects in our technology
age. I think this is a great idea: I'm sure others would happily take it upon
themselves to educate library goers out there! Doggies... Sidney
Dickson of Chico, CA wrote: "So far I've made a doggie blanket for a friend's
puppy," and she turned Spot into a dalmation.
